Disenrollment from First Health Colorado is a Qualifying Life Event

Life events like getting married or divorced, having a baby, or losing a job can result in a loss or change in health coverage. These are considered qualifying events and allow people to enroll in a health plan outside of annual enrollment. Disenrollment from First Health Colorado or Child Health Plan Plus is considered such a qualifying event.

Nearly 7 million people will lose coverage simply if they don’t renew, while others will lose coverage due to changes in age, income, or other reasons. Losing health coverage because of the First Health Colorado redetermination process will qualify them for a special enrollment period. It’s important for these individuals to know about other health plan options available so they can be ready to enroll in a new plan.

If they do not have access to employer-sponsored coverage, they have 60 days before and after disenrollment, up to July 31, 2024, to join a health plan from the Health Insurance Marketplace, but can apply now to avoid any gap in coverage. Financial assistance may be available based on income levels and location. Anthem Individual and Family plans offer $0 cost for many commonly used prescription drugs, trusted local doctors and hospitals, and $0 cost for preventive care.
